WHY PERCUTANEOUS LAPIDUS?
Surgery requires correction of anatomy and deformity with the least impact to the patient. Traditional foot and ankle surgery requires long incisions (cuts) that can result in pain, bleeding, wound breakdown and infection, and prolonged recovery. Dr. Younger has pioneered techniques to allow the same outcome and correction of deformity for foot and ankle reconstruction while minimizing the incisions. This reduces pain, reduces wound complications, reduces bleeding, and improves the bone healing rate because the tissue allowing bone to grow is maintained. Dr. Younger has trained many surgeons internationally on these techniques and he is well recognized in both teaching and researching the outcomes of surgical foot and ankle reconstruction. He has been recognized by the University of British Columbia who have appointed him to be a full professor at the university in recognition of his research and teaching.

ABOUT DR. YOUNGER
Dr. Alastair Younger is a consultant, orthopaedic surgeon, foot and ankle specialist, and attending surgeon at Providence Health Care. Having preformed thousands of foot and ankle reconstructions and minimally invasive surgeries, he is internationally recognized for his expertise in ankle arthritis, including ankle joint replacement, fusion procedures, and minimally invasive foot and ankle surgery.
Dr. Younger, a pioneer in his field, brought his techniques to North America and is the designing surgeon behind the Percutaneous Lapidus procedure. As the inventor of this procedure, he developed this groundbreaking technique along with other techniques achieving fusion throughout the foot via minimally invasive (keyhole) surgery. These techniques were developed in conjunction with leading medical device equipment companies to ensure the procedures are highly reliable while being performed with the most appropriate devices for safety and efficacy.
In 2017, he expanded his minimally invasive surgical portfolio with the adoption of percutaneous burrs and screws. He adopted the percutaneous burrs and screws once licensed in North America in 2017 to add to his minimally invasive surgical portfolio. Dr. Younger is capable of treating almost all conditions through percutaneous surgery.
